2015 Annual Report
The mission of the Standards for Excellence Institute is to to promote the highest standards of ethics and accountability in nonprofit governance, management and operations, and to facilitate adherence to those standards by all nonprofit organizations. The Standards for Excellence Institute maintains that an annual report is "an important vehicle for communicating organizational information." We are proud to provide this information to our community and the public.
The Standards for Excellence Institute is a special initiative of Maryland Nonprofits. Maryland Nonprofits is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit associations and serves as the collective voice for over 28,000 nonprofit organizations in Maryland. The latest annual report for Maryland Nonprofits, including a statement of financial position and a list of board members, can be found at www.marylandnonprofits.org or by calling 410.727.6367.
2015 was a strong year for the Standards for Excellence Institute. We thank our partners, sponsors, volunteers, members, donors, Licensed Consultants, program participants, staff and committee members for their ongoing support. Together we help nonprofit organizations achieve the highest benchmarks of ethics and accountability in governance, management and operations, while strengthening the public’s trust in the nonprofit sector.

Standards 2.0 Turns 1!
In April 2015, the Standards for Excellence Institute celebrated the first anniversary of the enhanced Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector, as well as our convenient online application system. Since its launch in 2014, staff at the Institute have developed and revised numerous resources to deliver the upgraded program to new and existing members of our community. Some of these resources include:
Webinars and training opportunities regarding the timeline and process for implementation of the new Standards and online application
An organizational assessment and planning tool with relevant educational resources identified
A new Standards for Excellence implementation course
List of required and optional policies in the application

New Website and Mobile App
In line with our program enhancements, the Standards for Excellence Institute launched a new, mobile-responsive website and released a custom built mobile app, ensuring that members of the nonprofit community can "carry the code" and access these valuable resources in the field, at board meetings, or anywhere on the go!
Licensed Consultant Training
In October 2015, the Standards for Excellence Institute conducted its ninth annual Licensed Consultant Training program. After the three-day training, 24 individual consultants became licensed to use their new, extensive knowledge to help nonprofits strengthen their governance practices and exceed the rising demand for nonprofit accountability. There are presently over 100 Standards for Excellence Licensed Consultants across 19 states and territories, and we will be welcoming more consultants into our roster when we conduct the tenth Licensed Consultant Training program in October 2016.

Across the Nation
In June 2015, the Standards for Excellence Institute welcomed its newest Replication Partner, the Alliance for Better Nonprofits in Knoxville, Tennessee! The Alliance offers a free Standards for
Excellence assessment to their members that provides a road map for nonprofits to strengthen their organization through targeted training and consulting. The goal of Alliance for Better Nonprofits is to walk with nonprofits in the eastern Tennessee region on their journey toward efficiency and effectiveness through training, consulting and resources, including the nationally recognized Standards for Excellence program.
